Moon Glow fluffed the eerily, dark green cloud between her light lavender hoofs. “Hm, there we go,” she said before diving down to the ground to take a look at her work in the night sky. Making a  square with her front legs and hooves she made sure that everything was center.

Dark, rain filled clouds partially filled the hazy starless sky. Nestled among them was the bright moon with a light ring of mist around it. Even then it's normal warm light cast a strange and menacing glow upon the ground. Shadows seemed to move and creep about as if they were alive. To even the bravest pony the night sky would have been a frightening and foreboding presence.

“Ohh, perfect!” Moon Glow clapped her hooves in delight. Her image of the perfect night sky on Nightmare Night was nearly complete. “Now for the wind.” She prepared to take off just before a familiar whistle blew from above. “Uh-oh...” Her bright pink eyes searched the sky, and above her. She spotted another pegasus preparing to land.

Night Wing set hoof down beside his worker. “What is going on here? The forecast called for clear skies tonight.” He looked at his clip board to double check his charts. Sure enough the paper work was correct. He looked up from his papers to the young mare standing before him. “Moon Glow what are you doing,” he asked.

“Well I uh- you know- I was just-” Moon Glow took a deep breath and with a small prayer dove into her explanation. “You know that every Nightmare Night Princess Luna travels to towns throughout Equestria right? Well I was thinking that maybe if I made the sky look more like this...” she waved a hoof at the creepy sky above them. “Then maybe she'll be impressed and finally visit Fillydelphia...” Moon Glow trailed off, realizing only then how silly her idea might sound to others.

Night Wing sighed and put his papers back in his side satchel. “Look, you're my best night shift worker,  and I know that you are Princess Luna's biggest fan, but you can't go off and do things like this.” He blinked at the large number of ominous clouds. “Where did you get these clouds anyway?”

Moon Glow laughed nervously and clopped her hooves together. “Um, hehe, Whitetail woods.”

“What!”

She hurriedly continued her explanation. “But I only took the really small ones, and fluffed them until they were bigger!”

Night Wing heaved an exasperated sigh, and smiled wearily to his friend. “Put it all back please?” He knew how much meeting the princess of the moon meant to Moon Glow, but he simply could not put their jobs at risk. “...I don't want us getting in trouble for horsing around on night shift.”

Moon Glow's ears drooped on either side of her blue and blonde mane. She offered a simple “Yes sir...” as she turned to take care of clearing the sky. She looked up at the clouds and moon, and thought about all the effort she put into making it look perfect for Nightmare Night. “Oh well, maybe next year...” With a few beats of her wings she lifted off the ground slowly. She had meant no harm, but rules were rules. Pegasai simply weren't allowed to alter weather conditions for their own need in Fillydelphia.

Just then a flash of lightning and a loud crack of thunder burst across the night sky. The ruckus startled the two pegasus ponies. Night Wing looked back at Moon Glow wide eyed. The mare shook her head and hooves furiously. “I-it wasn't me!” Another clap of thunder rolled through the clouds, and the two of them could both hear maniacal laughter in the distance. “Oh my stars,” Moon Glow exclaimed, “it's her!”

Even though he had a sneaking suspicion of who Moon Glow meant, Night Wing still could not help but  ask. “Who?”

Moon Glow zoomed over where the dark blue colt was standing. Roughly she grabbed the collar of his shirt and shook him. “What do you mean who? Her! The one pony I have waited my entire life to meet!”

“Oh, hehe, her.” He held his head with a hoof, trying to make the dizziness from Moon Glow's harsh treatment stop.

“Princess Luna!” The mare's eyes grew wide as she looked to the sky to see a chariot pulled by two bat winged ponies soaring across the moon. At the helm was the dark mare of the moon herself, her mane the colors of the night sky with twinkles of stars shining within the wavy mass flowing behind her. Moon Glow squealed in delight as the chariot came around and landed before them.

Luna dismounted from her chariot and was greeted with a very shrill squeal. The princess looked around startled at the sound. Before she knew what was going on she was tackled to the ground by a still squealing and very exuberant mare. “Wha-what is-” She looked up to a pink eyed mare sitting atop her, the mare's blue and blonde ponytail swishing back and forth as she babbled almost incoherently at her.

“It's you! It really is you! Oh my stars. I am like your biggest fan! No seriously, when I was a little  filly I had my dad read the story of Nightmare Moon to me every night! I still have the book in the drawer of my night stand. Oh, but you don't want to hear about that any more right? You're Princess Luna now, you don't want to hear any more of that old Nightmare Moon stuff. Oh I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Moon Glow, and that is Night Wing, if there is anything I can do for you, anything at all just ask and I'll do it!”

“Uh, Moon Glow was it?” Luna watched the lavender mare's head nod furiously. “Could you please get off me?”

Moon Glow's face was full of anticipation as the princess addressed her by her name. So eager was she to please her idol. When the request finally came she was a little dumb struck. “Oh. Oh!” Hurriedly she rushed to get off of the princess and help her get back on all four hooves. “I am so, so sorry Princess Luna. I don't know what I was thinking. I was just so excited to see you, and I just couldn't stop myself-”

Night Wing cleared his throat and laid a hoof on Moon Glow's shoulder to calm her. “What my friend here is trying to say is, “welcome to Fillydelphia Princess Luna.”” With his hoof still on Moon Glow's shoulder he pulled her down into a proper bow with him.

Moon Glow popped her head back up as soon as she realized she had not officially welcomed the princess to their town.“Yes yes! Oh my stars yes! Welcome, welcome, and again if there is anything you need just ask!”

“Uh, thank you my loyal subjects. That was a very unique and...warm welcome.” The princess tried putting on her best smile for the two pegesai, but it some how seemed to fall short of a genuine smile.

The lavender mare took Luna's hoof in her own and guided the princess in the direction of the city. “Come with me Princess Luna, I'll show you the town, and what we have done for Nightmare Night. I want us to be the best of friends by morning.”

“Oh, haha, that would be nice...” Luna faked another smile for the young mare.

Night Wing watched his friend and the princess walk off together, and heaved a heavy sigh. For some reason he could not shake the feeling that this night was not going to be easy for anyone. He looked up to the eerie sky and cracked a grin. Moon Glow really did a good job at capturing the spirit of Nightmare Night. It was evident that the mare had put a lot of time and effort into making the night look and feel right. All it needed was a little northern wind and it would have been perfect. “Hm.” The colt thought to himself. “I'll leave this here for now.”
Having never read any MLP fan fiction before, and being fairly new to the fandom myself this is my first attempt at a small story. This is only one part of the story that I am working on.

After years of hoping, Moon Glow, the pegasus pony, finally gets to meet her idol.
